EBA will Build the Utility Tunnel for the Basurto University Hospital in Vizcaya

Osakidetza-S.V.S. (Basque Health Service) has awarded EBA, in joint venture with Luperlan and Emartin Facilities, the execution works of the utility tunnel at the Basurto University Hospital. This key infrastructure project aims to expand the hospital’s Thermal Production and Distribution System and will be executed with a focus on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. The new installation will support the hospital’s buildings by relieving pressure on the existing thermal distribution networks and will also serve the Faculty of Medicine and Nursing of the UPV-EHU in Basurto, which is also being built by EBA in joint venture with Ferrovial.

The project includes the expansion of the existing Thermal Production Building and the construction of an underground utility tunnel. This tunnel will be excavated using a tunnel boring machine (TBM) due to its path through the designated area for the new Basurto University Hospital. Both the launch and reception shafts for the tunnel are located within the hospital construction site, requiring careful coordination of the work phases.
