SANJOSE was awarded with the expansion and remodelling of the most important airport in Nepal for 70 million dollars

Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) that depends of Nepal’s Government and equivalent to the Directory of Civil Aviation in Spain has awarded SANJOSE Constructora for 70 millions dollars the first and most important package for the improvement of the Kathmandu International Airport (Tribhuvan International Airport -TIA) in Nepal.
The Project, fully funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), it’s focused on the Kathmandu International Airport although it also includes the supply of certain equipment to the regional airports of Rara and Simikot.
The actual available space for the passengers flow at the TIA is 2.5 million per year, figure that is expected to increase till the 3.5 million at 2015. The expansion and remodelling that SANJOSE will execute will ease the passenger flow and will improve all the quality and safety conditions at the airport.
▪ Project description
Enlargement of the Runway, construction of new Taxiways, extension of the Apron, new lighting in the Airfield, reform and expansion of the International Terminal, new System of Carriage of Baggage and several civil works and associated facilities.
Once all the Infrastructure, buildings and engineering are completed at Kathmandu International Airport will allow that bigger aircrafts and tonnage could land due to the extension of the Runway, its Apron will accommodate around 20 Boeing 757, the users will have a modern and extended Terminal Building and the TIA will be able to operate 24 hours a day (currently is no operational after 12 am)
▪ Jobs
The Works will generate about 500 direct jobs during construction and once the project is over is estimated that 2,000 new professionals will join the current 6,000.
So far this project is the largest expansion for the Kathmandu International Airport in terms of contract value.
Will create new jobs, improve the security and the operational capacity of the airport and directly benefit the tourism industry of Nepal, which is one of the biggest industries for the national economy. Therefore, Nepal considers this project of national importance.
